In order to give a tough competition to the Android and iPhone, Nokia has recently launched the Lumia series of phone based on the Windows Based Operating System for Mobile Devices. The phone is most hyped smartphone of 2011 mainly because of the Windows OS that is combined with the hardware of the Nokia which is believed to be the most reliable in the industry. The Nokia Lumia is a one piece body that has a display of 3.7 inches capable of exhibiting 16 Million colours with a resolution of 480X800 pixels. The display is protected by the Gorilla Glass and supports multitouch. There is an eight MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics and has autofocus and dual LED Flash. The camera supports 3x optical zoom without any loss of image quality. The camera supports geo tagging, touch focus, fast sharing and dual LED flash for the 3D image capturing. Almost all the popular image formats are supported.
The Operating System of the phone is Windows 7.5 which is also known as Mango. The single QUALCOMM CPU has a clock rate of 1.4 Ghz. Another impressive feature of the phone is 16 GB internal memory support with 512 MB RAM. The phone almost has all the major sensors such as GPS, Accelerometer, Proximity, Mangnetometer Sensor and much more. The ambient light sensor is also given in this phone.
As far as the connectivity is concerned, there are a number of options to send or receive data. The phone has WLAN support that has WEP, WPA, 802.11, WPA-2 and WPA Enterprise connection types. A popular proprietary synch feature that has been given in this phone is the Microsoft Zune. For local connectivity we have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB. There is no support for USB 3.0 which has let us down.
The music player of the phone comes with an active noise cancellation system which cuts out noise. The FM player is capable of streaming audio directly from the internet. Besides this, the phone supports email services, messaging, push notifications, PDF readers, navigation and location supports and Microsoft has incorporated Internet Explorer 9 for the internet experience.
On the whole the phone has fulfilled most of our expectations and we would have hoped that the pricing of this handset should be done more competitively. The phone is available in India for Rs. 29000 and is available for $660 internationally.
